To travel to as many caches as possible especially those near campgrounds.
This TB has been missing for over a year so I am giving it a new life. It has been replaced with a wooden tag with the same tracking number and a photo tag of the original Blaze the Campfire TB to enable it to travel again.
A campfire is lit at a campsite to serve the following functions: light, warmth, a beacon, an insect predator deterrent, to cook, and for a phychological sense of security.
Ideally, campfires should be made in a fire ring. If a fire ring is not available, a temporary fire site may be consructed. Bare rock or unvegetated ground is ideal for a fire site. Turf may be cut away to form a bare area and carefully replaced after the fire has cooled to minimize damage. Another way is to cover the ground with sand or soil. A ring of rocks can be construted around a fire. Even with fire rings flying embers are still a threat.
Here are some safety measures:
Avoid building campfires under hanging branches.
Have lots of water nearby and a shovel to smother an out-of-control fire with dirt.
Never leave a campfire unattended.
When extinguishing a campfire use plenty of water, stir the mixture and add more water. Check that there are no burning embers left.
Never bury hot coals. They can continue to burn and cause root fires or wildfires. Be aware of roots if digging a hole for your fire.
