About This Item

charity: waterbug and Casco Bay

Water Cycle 2010 was a cross-country cycle tour of a few young women that started in Portland, Maine, June 2010, and ended in San Fransisco a few months later.  Their mission was not only to complete the trip successfully, but also to raise funds and awareness for an incredible non-profit called "charity: water" that helps people without clean, safe drinking water gain access through constructing wells and other water projects.  The girls DID complete their cycle tour successfully and also raised enough funds to fully sponsor one well and part of another!  In October 2012, the members of Water Cycle 2010, got the word that their wells had been completed.  This TB is to celebrate that mission fully completed, and to recognize that water is our most precious resource.

I was one of the two riders who completed the journey.  The trip was one of the most profound experiences of my life... cycling day after day, meeting incredible people along the way, getting completely pushed to our limits, facing some incredibly horrendous challenges... but also seeing and experiencing some of the most beautiful places and moments ever imaginable.  Now that our efforts have come to fruition with the completion of the wells, we are humbled... honored... and re-inspired.
