Although we can't take this nice TB to the International Space Station, we did the next best thing - took it to visit our cache which is on the property not too far from the monument commemorating a historic space mission by Apollo 11. (The Apollo 11 space mission on July 20, 1969 put the very first man on the moon.) The Apollo's very last flight was the United States' first joint mission with the Soviet Union in July, 1975. As a symbol of peace and good will, this mission ended the space race begun in 1957. The Forestry Sciences Lab in our very small city of Rhinelander, Wisconsin gave spruce seeds from their facility to the Soviet cosmonaut on this last mission, and he gave our astronauts seeds from their Siberian Larch trees. The larch seeds were planted and grew into a tree over 30 feet tall in the 41 years since it was planted. We have uploaded a picture of the monument with the larch tree behind it and one of the TB resting on the plaque above the Apollo 11 and the Russian Soyuz. We hope you will enjoy the historic info and the pics.
