Current Goal

Bat-Mite would like to visit a few real-world locations related to his hero Batman:

  • The Bat Cave in Gotham, Wisconsin

  • Gotham Bar and Grill & Poe Park in Manhattan, New York City, New York

  • Danvers Hospital (former site) in Danvers, Massachussets — Visited on April 14th 2014 with cacher allred13. Thanks so much!

  • Wayne Manor (former site) in Sunnyvale, California

Note that all the locations are within the borders of the continental United States. Please keep Bat Mite in the U.S. so he can complete his mission!

Gotham (AKA Richland City) in Buena Vista, Wisconsin, U. S. of A., where you will find the Bat Cave (a local bar).
There is a Batman-themed cache near here:
GCHGWP - Batman Cache.

Gotham Bar and Grill-12 E 12th St, Manhattan, NY 10003
and
Poe Park- between E. 192 St. and E. Kingsbridge Rd., Bronx, New York, NY 10458
The latter location is where Bob Kane and Bill Finger used to sit in front of Edgar Allan Poe's old farmhouse and come up with ideas for Batman comic books. Some say this is where the Batman was conceived.
There is a Batman-themed cache somewhat near here:
GC1GMB8 - Justice League: Batman

The site of the former Danvers Hospital in Danvers, Massachussets, U. S. of A.
This location is near the former Danvers Hospital which was the inspiration for Lovecraft's Arkham Sanitarium, which in turn inspired the Arkham Asylum where Batman sent many of his mentally unbalanced foes.
There is a somewhat Batman-themed cache near here:
GC2T6PY - H.P. Lovecraft 4: Arkham Asylum

The former location of Wayne Manor in Sunnyvale, California.
The intersection of Washington and Murphy Avenues in Sunnyvale formerly offered a branch of the famous Whiskey A Go Go in 1965. Owner Joe Lewis wanted to re-launch the club with a new theme in 1966 and was persuaded by his 11 year old son to use Batman as an inspiration. Lewis renamed the club Wayne Manor, and quite conveniently for him, ABC debuted Batman as a television show shortly after the club reopened. Wanting to capitalize on the popularity of the television program and revitalize Sunnyvale, Joe Lewis suggested the city change it name to Gotham City, and he nearly pulled it off.

I could not find any Batman-themed geocaches near Sunnyvale; there is an Iron Man cache, but he's a Marvel character.

Bat-Mite would (of course) be thrilled to visit any other Batman-themed geocaches.

About This Item

Bat-Mite is a comic book character created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, he first appeared in Detective Comics #257 in the story Batman Meets Bat-Mite in 1959. He is an imp and is often compared to Mister Mxyzptlk, a nemesis of Superman, as both appear to have nearly unlimited magical powers owing to the fact they come from the Fifth Dimension. In fact, Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk have teamed up on 4 occasions to harass Superman & Batman together in the pages of World's Finest Comics.

However, Bat-Mite is not intentionally a villain in Batman's world, as he idolizes the Batman. He often sets up bizarre events using his magical powers in order to see his hero in action.

Many modern-day comic book fans revile Bat-Mite as a hokey artifact of the silver age of comics. However, in 2007 writer Grant Morrison had Bat-Mite re-appear in Batman #672, possibly as a hallucination as Batman is recovering from a heart attack. A few issues later, when Batman confronts Bat-Mite, demanding to know if he is an interdimensional being from the fifth Dimension or a deluded product of the superhero's imagination, Bat-Mite responds that the fifth dimension is imagination.
