Martim Moniz - Portugal Geocoin

Para já a minha missão é apenas comparecer a eventos com o meu dono e contribuir para mais um find dos presentes.
Quem encontrar o meu dono em acção poderá tambem fazer o find.

Martim é o nome do nosso primeiro filho.
Martim Moniz foi um personagem ligado ao nascimento da Nacionalidade Portuguesa.

De acordo com a lenda, terá sido um nobre cavaleiro que lutou com heroísmo durante aquele cerco, ao lado das forças cristãs sob o comando do rei D. Afonso Henriques (1112-85).

Ao perceber o entreabrir de uma porta no Castelo dos Mouros, atacou-a individualmente, sacrificando a vida ao atravessar o seu próprio corpo no vão da mesma, como forma de impedir o seu fecho pelos defensores.

Esse gesto heróico permitiu o tempo necessário à chegada e o acesso dos companheiros, que assim conseguiram conquistar o castelo. Em sua homenagem, esse acesso ficou conhecido como Porta de Martim Moniz.

Esta história não teve qualquer influencia na escolha dos nomes dos nossos filhos. Apenas achamos curioso que ambos tenham nomes relacionados com o nascimento de Portugal.

Martim is the name of our first son.
Martim Moniz is a character related with the beggining of Portugal as a Nation.

According to the legend, he was a Noble Knight that fought bravely during the siege of Lisbon, at the side of Christian Forces under the command of the first King of Portugal D. Afonso Henriques (1112-85).

Seeing that one of the doors of the Moors Castle, he attacked alone, sacrificing his life by placing his own body in the door preventing that it was closed by the defenders.

This heroic action has alowed the attackers to gain the necessary time for reinforcements to arrive and conquer the castle. In his homage, this door has become the Door of Martim Moniz..

This Legend had no influence in choosing our childrens names. We just think its funny that they both have names related to the beggining of Portugal as a Nation.
