Hello Kids,

We found Nemo in a cache at the Alabama welcome center, and will carry the fish with us for a few days so it can visit some new places. It will be placed in our favorite travel bug hotel near our home in Southern California. Here are the answers to your questions.

1) What kind of Animals live in the area? If you mean the area where we found Nemo, that will be something for you to research. We are from out of town, so we are unsure of what animals might live here, though we could guess a few. Near our home in California we find many different animals, ground squirrels, opossum, coyote, raccoon, black bear, mountain lion, deer, tree squirrels, pack rats, kangaroo rats, desert tortoise, and bobcats to name a few.

2) For fun we like to geocache, of course! We also enjoy hiking, backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, snow skiing, water skiing, and playing games.

3) The terrain is hilly near our home, but nearby are two mountain ranges, one with 10,000+ ft. peak San Jacinto and the other with 11,000+ ft. peak San Gorgonio.

4) English

5) Many different types of food, but we particularly enjoy food from other cultures including Indian, Chinese, and Thai.

6) We found your trackable in a cache located at the northbound Alabama welcome center on interstate 59.

7) The weather is wonderful, though it can be hot in the summer. We live at approximately 2,600 ft. elevation, so though it is hot in the summer, evenings are cool and pleasant. Our temperatures are usually 5-10 degrees cooler than our nearby lower elevation cities of Riverside, Hemet, Moreno Valley and San Bernardino. We have a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, with average summer temperatures being 95 degrees and winter temps 52 degrees. Night temperatures in the winter can reach freezing, and occasionally we get snow, though it usually melts in a day. Since we live at the peak of the San Gorgonio pass, we live in one of the windiest areas of Southern California, with the air funneling between the large mountain ranges as it flows to and from the desert.

8) Not that we can think of. During the cold war Lockheed Corporation had a rocket test sight near the community in Potrero Canyon.

9) Early winter

10) We geocache quite a bit, at least once a week. We have found geocaches in all of the lower 48 states.

With the information we have given you, can you determine where we live? Feel free to email your guess.

Grab It (Not from a Cache) 12/5/2013 Sierrawildflower & GeoHiker grabbed it   Visit Log

Well I did not exactly grab it from their hands, I discovered it in a cache and picked it up. However, since it was not dropped in the cache, I will drop it and retrieve it so you can see where Nemo has been.

Hi Kids!

We found your clown fish cache buddy at San Angelo State Park. We are an Army family and have lived in San Angelo for two years. We are originally from North Carolina. Here are the answers to your questions about us and San Angelo.

  1. We love the state park and have seen many animals there. There are bison, longhorn cattle, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, jack rabbits, deer and porcupine.

  2. We enjoy hiking, biking, and traveling to new places. Of course, we also love to geocache!!

  3. The terrain is desert like with lots of cacti and thorny bushes. It is really dry and dusty.

  4. We speak English.

  5. We love all kinds of food but pizza and burritos are our favorites.

  6. We found your trackable in the San Angelo State Park in West Texas.

  7. The weather in San Angelo is pretty warm most of the time. During the summer, we have many days over 100 degrees! January through March are the coldest months but it rarely gets below freezing.

  8. Our area is the home of Goodfellow Air Force Base. The base trains all branches of the military: Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy.

  9. We found the trackable at the beginning of Fall/Autumn.

  10. We started geocaching as a family activity about two months ago. We find caches whenever we have time to spare. We have found 88 so far!
