Today we visited Royal Wootton Bassett, a town not far from where we live, which has played a large part in the repatriation of servicemen from RAF Lyneham between 2007 to 2011 whilst RAF Brize Norton was being repaired.
Local members of the Royal British Legion became aware of the repatriations and decided to formally show their respect to the soldiers as they passed through the town, sometimes gatherings would exceed 1000 people.
I happened to be in the town, during one of the last repatriations in 2011. It was an honourable, silent and sombre experience, which could easily reduce you to tears.
Lest we forget.
