The Gingerbread Man is an English fairy tale about a biscuit made of gingerbread in the shape of a human.
The story goes like this.
An old woman makes a man of cake. She gives him a coat of chocolate and buttons of nutmeg; he gets eyes of currants and a mouth of pink candy.
The Gingerbread Man leaps out of the oven and runs away. The woman gives chase, but the Gingerbread Man only laughs and calls out: "Run, run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man”.
And indeed, the woman fails to catch him. He is then pursued by different people and animals, until ... he eventually gets eaten.

The Gingerbread man is een Engels sprookje over een mannetje van koek.
Het verhaal gaat als volgt.
Een oude vrouw maakt een mannetje van koek. Ze geeft hem een jasje van chocola en knopen van nootmuskaat; hij krijgt ogen van krenten en een mond van roze suikergoed.
Als hij uit de over komt, gaat The Gingerbread Man er vandoor. Hij rent de deur uit en de straat op. Het oude vrouwtje rent zo snel ze kan achter hem aan, maar het koekemannetje lacht alleen maar en roept: "Ren maar, ren maar, zo hard als je kan. Mij kun je niet krijgen, mij, de koekeman".
En inderdaad, het oude vrouwtje kan hem niet krijgen. Hij wordt vervolgens door verschillende mensen en dieren achtervolgd, totdat ... hij uiteindelijk wordt opgegeten.
