About This Item

Alfred Hitchcock - "The Birds"

A sub-species within a collection of about 60 trackables being released in my cache:  GC46C66   Bluebirds Fly.

This group is based on an “Angry Birds Star Wars” collection.  These reflect a different type of “star wars”.  Each is based on “star” power of performers, writers, famed or infamous personalities, etc.  Criteria for selection of the honoree – simply a “bird” connected name or title.

Hope you recognize some of these.  Perhaps you’ll have recollections of your own or just be introduced to an oldie but goodie from the star power tribute.  Enjoy!

*******”The Birds” movie directed by Alfred Hitch”cock”

Perhaps this iconic film should be the top of the “star wars” trackables chart. The title, the “bird” reference in Hitchcock’s name, and the star-studded cast make this an outstanding film that is timeless. In researching this title there is a connection very close to the original release of this birds collection of trackables.

Apparently in August of 1961 residents of nearby Capitola, California awoke to dead birds dropping on their rooftops and streets.  Of course there was quite a bit of media coverage.  Alfred Hitchcock requested copies of the Santa Cruz Sentinel newspaper articles to use as research of his “The Birds” project.

1952 – story “The Birds” published by Daphne du Maurier; set in Bodega Bay, California, just a couple of hours drive up the coast from Capitola

1961 – Evan Hunter began screenplay adaptation of du Maurier’s story; as development progressed Hitchcock solicited feedback and assistance from several friends, one being Hume Cronyn whose wife (Jessica Tandy) played a leading role in the film

1963 – film released on March 28, premiered in New York City at the Museum of Modern Art

Cast:  newcomer  Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Veronica Cartwright,  Suzanne Pleshette

Budget:  $3.3 million
Box Office: $11.4 million

Hitchcock’s signature cameo appearance:  at the beginning of the film walking his own two Sealyham terries (Geoffrey and Stanley) out of the pet store
