Mission #4: Sir Elmo is off to Egypt

By Audrey, Preston, Abbey, and Mia

November 20, 2014

We would like Sir Elmo to go to Egypt to visit the Valley of the Kings. Valley of the Kings is where the Kings tombs are built. The valley has two branches: the East branch contains most of the kings’ tombs and the west contains AmenhotepIII and Ay. All the tombs have been visited by tomb robbers. The most famous tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter!

Sir Elmo would like to go to Egypt when he gets there we would like to send him to the temple Edfu. There is a statue of a god named Horus. He is the god of the sky. The temple is south of Luxor. When Horus was a child he was called Harpokrates “The Infant Horus”. Hours was the son of  Isis and Osiris. He had five sons Ihy, Imsety,  Hapy, Duamutef, and Qebehsenuef. Horus is a presentative of the greatest cosmic power.

I hope our trackable, Sir Elmo will go to Egypt and discover the farming there! Egyptian farming has gone way back to ancient times. They first farmed by digging a hole with a stick and then putting a seed in the hard clay soil. This was a hard technique for them and they were determined to make a new one. They decided to use their cattle to make a plow which makes it easier to make holes for the crops. This also made them bigger without as much it would take by man. They would use their animals for milk, meat, hides, and they were used to help with the farming. Ancient Egyptians used to determine on the Nile for their water supply for themselves and the plants. Now Egyptians aren’t able to due to the sediment that doesn’t mix with plants or is drinkable for humans. The dams that guard the Nile covers it also prevents floods and from making fertile soil for the plants. There are two seasons in Egypt. The two seasons are called dry season and the Flood season. Wheat was one of the most important. If you wanted to cut your wheat the landlord would usually make you cut his and you would end up having no wheat to harvest. They don’t do that anymore and that is a big relief! The farming system has grown with easy homemade ways!

If Sir Elmo makes it to Egypt, he might like to see the tomb of Tutankhamun. Tutankhamun was born around the year 1346 BC. He became a pharaoh at the age of nine! Sadly Tutankhamun died when he was only 18.Over 3,000 treasures were put in his tomb to help him with his afterlife.

Mission # 3: Sir Elmo is off to France.

Bryson and Analeise

September 8, 2014

We would like our trackable to visit France. While he is there he can see the Eiffel Tower and try lots of wonderful French food.

The Eiffel tower cost $1.5 million to build on the southern bank of the Seine River in 1889 which makes it 125 years old in 2014. More than 200 million people have visited  the Eiffel tower. The Eiffel tower is made of 9441 tons of steel.

When Sir Elmo goes to France he may like to try French food.  He my like to try baguettes which are long bread sticks or fresh vegetables meat and cheeses. Sir Elmo may want goose liver pate or crepes which are very thin pancake with filling.

Mission # 2: Sir Elmo explores the Philippines.

By Rachel, Luke and Kory

Our group would like Sir Elmo to visit the Philippines because that is where Rachel's parents were born.

The Philippines had a typhoon on November 8, 2013.  Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest storms that hit the Philippines.  Nearly 25 million people got hurt during the typhoon.  Over 100,000 people took shelter and lots of flights were canceled.  Another name for typhoon Haiyan is typhoon Yolanda.  The wind gust were up to 235 mph.  The amount of homes that got destroyed were about 1.2 million.  Over 6,000 people died at the end of the typhoon Yolanda.  There are 1,779 people  missing since the typhoon.  The cost of rebuilding and recovery will be about $5.7 billion to$ 250 billion pesos in the Philippines.

A place Sir Elmo migh llike to visit in Manila Ocean Park, you can look at other incredible fish from a glass bottom boat. You can see, feed, and stand in one place to see penguins. People can relax in one pool that is called the fish spa. The fish just nibble on your feet to be relaxing. Jellyfish can fly around in the water. Some people call them “dancing sea fairies.” You can get in water full of Sting ray and I think that is cool for me.

The Philippines flag has four difference colors are red,,blue,,yellow, and white. The blue part on the Philippines flag stands for peace.  The red part on the Philippines flag stands for war. The sun on the Philippines flag stands for freedom.  The Philippines flag was made in Hong Kong 1897.

Mission #1 Sir Elmo rides to Tennessee

By Savannah, Fernando, Kayla and K.K.

Our geocache’s name is Sr. Elmo. We named him after St. Elmo Center for The Gifted. I want him to go to the Tennessee Eiffel Tower. It’s the place with the world’s biggest fish fry. The tower is located in Paris, Tennessee. There are also fifteen other towns in the U.S.A named Paris. The reason  why  I want Sr. Elmo to go to Paris, Tennessee is because my grandfather lives in the area.  I really  want someone to find Sr. Elmo.

Sir Elmo might like to check out the Tennessee Nashville Sports Hall Of Fame museum shows stuff from the 1800s to now. There are many games to play. There are many displays of people that play on teams like Peyton Manny. There is a kayak you can get in and a video making it look like you are in a river. There are many computer consoles to learn stuff about sports history.

After the museum, Sir Elmo might like to hike the Tennessee Wildlife Refuge Park was built in 1945.It covers 51,000 acres of water, forests, farmlands and grasslands. It stretches for 65 miles along the Tennessee River. There are 51 mammals, 89 reptiles, amphibians and 144 types of fish. There are opportunities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and photography.

Another good hiking spot might be Lookout Mountain. The three top places to visit in the Chattooga Valley are Rock City, Ruby Falls and Incline Railway, the world’s steepest passenger railway! In 1863, Union Troops capture Lookout Mountain southwest of Chattooga, Tennessee as they began to break the Confederate Seige of the city.
