Today Emperor visited the Horton Waterspheroid which has served as a water tower and landmark in Red Deer, AB for almost 60 years. Horton Waterspheroid, the tower’s official name, comes from the name of the company that built it (Horton Steel Works Ltd) and “waterspheroid” is the name of the design. The structure stands 40.2 metres tall and the ball tank is 18.9 metres across. When the tower opened in Jan, 1959 it was the world’s largest tank of its type and the first to be built in Canada!
Emperor also visited a sign noting Red Deer as the host city for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
