Bahati Nyota means lucky star in Swahili. I hope this star has much luck with its journey to visit as many different and unique sea stars around the world.
Did you know that sea stars are not really fish? Sea stars don't always have five arms and they can regenerate lost arms, while lost arms can regenerate into NEW sea stars! Sea stars contain no blood and have eyes at the end of each arm.
I love sea stars and the way they move. I've only ounce discovered a real sea star in the ocean and unfortunately in my attempt to run back to shore to get a camera, my dearest friend had swam away. It became the typical "fish" story.
Living in TZ, visiting Zanzibar, full moon, low tide, following the moonlight into the deep dark blue ocean (alone) and BAM there lies the largest sea star EVER! I race back to shore, jumping through the ocean and crunch, I landed on a sea urchin. I hobble off to find my camera and other friends, promising there is a giant sea star. Limped back through the ocean with thorns stuck in my bloody foot only to discover the sea star had vanished. Was it true, did I really see a sea star?
Don't let your story become a big "fish" story. If you're lucky enough to find any sea stars, take me for a swim and photograph me with them! I'd love to find my way back to Zanzibar!
