Veranópolis

The mission of this Travel Bug is to travel all around the World disclosing this amazing city located in South of Brazil called Veranópolis, my hometown.

The TB wants to pay a visit to Italy, as the Italian immigrants were very important in our culture, and then go back to Veranópolis, where it came from for a vacation, before returning to its journey.

Veranópolis is located in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul.

The shape of the Travel Bug is the same as of the monument located at the city entrance.

In the monument, are represented the Italian immigrants which colonized this region of Brazil. The fact that the first apple tree in Brazil was planted in Veranópolis is represented by the apple on the right side, and the top, metallic, represents the strong mettalurgical industry of the city. In the portico is also written Terra da Longevidade, which, in Portuguese means Land of the Longevity, as it was known to be the first city in Brazil and the third in the World in longevity.

It really worths a visit, even though it is located far from the big centres. Porto Alegre, the capital od Rio Grande do Sul state, is located 170 km away from Veranópolis, and São Paulo is around 1000 km. This region of Brazil, known as Serra Gaúcha, is highly frequented by tourists, as it has an European style that differs from the rest of Brazil.

Come and visit, I'm sure that you'll enjoy the scenic landascapes of mountains, and, maybe you can have lunch in the only revolving restaurant in Brazil, Mirante da Serra, which is located in Veranópolis.
