To travel to County Down Ireland and visit the caches in the land where my great great grandfather came from. Once in County Down, please take as many pictures with the TB in the surrounding area as possible and share any local traditions. When the TB has spent a bit of time in Ireland, I'll call it back home.
I was doing some family history tracing and was particularly interested in my great great grandfather because he served in the Civil War. He served in the 149th Pa regiment Company D and saw plenty of action. He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg which would be the most famous battle he participated in. I've had the pleasure of visiting the battle field a few times and it amazes me that not only did he survive that battle without a scratch, he surived through the entire war without being wounded or becoming sick. His termed ended after the war ended and the 149th was disbanded.
He was born in County Down Ireland in 1823 and died near Pittsburgh Pa in 1911. His name was Hugh Wallace Campbell. Family legend holds that he was named after William Wallace who fought the british in Scottland but that is family lure and I don't know how to prove that. I do know his mother's name was Martha Wallace which seemed to me to be the source of his middle name but I wasn't there. :)
He left Ireland in 1849 and eventually settled near Pittsburgh Pa. He had four children which in turn produced grandchildren one of which was my grandfather. My relatives all are born and raised in Pittsburgh up until Hugh Wallace Campbell. I think it would be fun to see pictures from his homeland and ultimately the country my family orginally came from. Who knows, maybe some distant relative will be helping this cache along.
