About This Item

After leaving school in 1983 I served my apprenticeship as a pipefitter with my very good schoolfriend Darren Passmore who chose to become a welder.I stayed close to home to work while Darren travelled all over the world and always came home with new shoes (he was a bit of a male Imelda Marcos!) and lots of interesting stories of places he'd been, things he'd seen and scrapes he'd got into!
During the 90s he turned up on my doorstep with a present from his latest job,it was a piece of the Berlin wall (taken from close to the Brandenburg Gate) that he had bought there. This piece of concrete has been all over the house as an ornament and finally settled on a dresser for a few years and now its time to tidy up and put it away somewhere...but it doesnt feel right. Darren was lost overboard a ship in the South China Seas 2 years ago and as this is one of the only things he gave me (us blokes dont really do the 'gift' thing to each other do we?) i thought that it would be fitting to send it on its way out into the world again and see what trouble IT got into.Darren would have approved of this as he was very much up for anything if there was a laugh involved!
The 'screen' refers to a welding screen (faceshield) which is the prized personal pocession of all welders and one they are loath to change and is carted with them all over the world.
So take this piece of concrete history away and show it a good time.... and while your at it raise a glass to Darren!
