About This Item

Ms-Pacman-geocoin-small

The Ms. Pacman geocoins were minted in 2013 by RetiredGuy and are being released throughout the world.

In 1981, the most successful video game in the history of North America was designed by Doug Macrae, Kevin Curran, Steve Golson, Mike Horowitz, Chris Rode, and John Tylko who had started up General Computer earlier that year. The game went on to be licensed to Bally / Midway for production starting in 1982 and later to Namco of Japan.

A very successful Atari 2600 version of the game was designed by Doug Macrae, Josh Littlefield, Glenn Parker, and Mark Ackerman. That was shortly followed by the 5200 version designed by Allen Wells and Steve Syzmanski and the 7800 version by Allen Wells and Bruce Burns.

A fun story. In June of 2014, I went geocaching with three young kids, Able, Emanuel, and Blaze near Bryce Canyon, Utah where we found our first Utah cache. It was called Gator and was found by Emanuel while Blaze and Able jumped back in fright. After signing our names and posing for a group picture, I left a Ms. Pac-Man geocoin. The coin then went from cache to cache, first heading to California and then off to Europe, stopping in Italy, Austria, and Germany. For it’s 92nd cache, it moved to Illinois and then to Florida to The Cool Cache on Merritt Island. I went to The Cool Cache today because it was the favorite cache in all of Florida and I was celebrating my 5900 find. And what did I find? The Ms. Pac-Man geocoin that started in Utah and had traveled over 13,000 to get back to me!

I brought you along to this CITO at a sanddune in the city limits of Berlin, something quite extraordinary. Afterwards I met some geocachers who will be traveling to the USA next month and will help you along on your journey. Bon voyage!
