It's a race from San Diego CA to Ogden UT - a distance of 785 miles - but we want the trail to meander through many geocaches and many geocachers and log a minimum of 3000 miles.
******* One more addendum! As of 05-09-2006, the TB has morphed into a blue bird. (See photo with 05-09-2006 log.) *******
******* Yet ANOTHER addendum! As of 06-09-2004, this TB has apparently lost its compass and is now just circulating with the dog tag *******
******* An addendum (on 02-18-2004) to the addendum: The original TB has resurfaced. So the COPY is out of circulation. See log of this date below. *******
******* Making an addendum to this TB on 02-15-2004. It seems the original TB has been lost. FlagMan of San Diego has provided a substitute with the COPY tag. See the photo on his log of 02-13-2004. *******
There are 5 travel bugs which were initially released in geocaches a few miles apart in San Diego CA. Each TB is a Geocaching.com compass keychain with a different color plastic tying it to the TB dog tag. The names reflect the color of the tie. The contestants are: Black Flash, Blue Blazes, Red Streak, White Lightening, and Yellow Express. To learn where your TB stands in the race, check the chart below.
Rules are simple. The TBs will be transferred from geocache to geocache until they reach the goal of a 3000-mile journey. The TB must be placed in a cache by one geocacher and picked up from that cache by a different geocacher - a minimum of 5 times. If you cache with a group, the whole group is considered only one cacher. This ensures that the TB actually changes hands at least 5 times. Once a cacher has transferred the TB from one cache to another, he/she/they are not allowed to move that particular TB again.
The first TB to accumulate 3000 miles AND be logged into a cache in the area of Ogden UT (north of Salt Lake City; zip code 84403) will be judged the winner. IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE JOURNEY BY LOGGING EACH AND EVERY PLACEMENT AND RETRIEVAL ON THE TB PAGE. The TB page will keep track of the miles traveled.
Feel free to photograph the TBs and/or their locations and post pictures and stories on the TB pages. On your mark, get set,
GO FOR IT, BLUE BLAZES!
