Mission #2: President Roderick’s Journey to India
February 2015
Kayla, Susan, Sophia
We would like President Roderick, our trackable, to go to India. We want him to see the Taj Mahal, the Golden Temple, and the India Gate in New Delhi. India is full of attractions and color. India is an interesting country and there is so much to learn about it.
One main attraction in India is the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his wife, Mumtaj Mahal. Taj Mahal wasn’t built overnight. In fact, it took about 20 years to build. Throughout the day, Taj Mahal changes three different colors. Early in the day, around morning time, it turns pink. During the day, it changes from pink to white. At nighttime, it changes a golden color. Taj Mahal means “crown of palaces”. Taj Mahal is located in Agra, Northern India. The Taj Mahal’s full height is 171 meters or 115 feet.
Another attraction in India is the Golden Temple. This temple is located in Amritsar, India. The Golden Temple has three holy trees in it. This temple is used by the religions Hindu and Moslem. It is surrounded by the lake of Amritsar, meaning the pool of holy nectar. The Golden Temple is mostly made of marble but has gold plates, too.
One other attraction is the India Gate located in New Delhi. New Delhi is the capital of India. The India Gate stands at 42 meters tall in the center of New Delhi. The India Gate was built by Edwin Lutyens in 1921. The names of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Afghan War and World War I are inscribed in the walls of the India Gate. There are more than 13,516 soldiers’ names inscribed on the India Gate.

Mission #1:President Roderick The Seahorse in Washington, D.C.
By Peyton and Josey
We would like President Roderick to see the White House. It was constructed two centuries ago. Did you know that John Adams was the first president to live in the White House? George Washington did not live in the White House. He only oversaw the construction. British soldiers burned the White House in 1814.
While visiting Washington, Roderick could visit The Washington Monument. It is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The building of the monument honoring George Washington did not begin until 1848. The cost of the monument was over a million dollars. It was designed by Robert Mills. Inside the monument there is an elevator and 897 steps on the stairway.
