Current Goal

Kelsey would like this tag to visit any and all Native American places.  This trackable was activated for her and began it's journey at the Blackhawk War Monument near Kent, IL.  (Following information taken from the Freeport/Stephenson County Convention & Visitors Bureau.)

Black Hawk War Monument

14109 W. Blackhawk Road
Kent, Illinois
Open: Dawn to Dusk

This monument is located on the site of Kellogg’s Grove, an early settlement established in 1827 on a mail route between Peoria and Galena, and now on the National Register of Historic Places. The monument honors those killed in the Black Hawk War, including in the final Illinois battle which occurred at this grove in June,1832. Abraham Lincoln, a member of the Illinois militia, helped to bury five of the slain men. The remaining soldiers were originally buried throughout the area at the spots at which they fell. Fifty years after the Black Hawk War ended, farmers from the area initiated a movement to collect the remains and bury them in one enclosure with a fitting monument. Thus the Black Hawk War Monument was erected and dedicated in 1886 on top of this hill overlooking the Yellow Creek Valley. It is eight feet square at the base, three feet square at the top, and thirty-four feet high. The area surrounding the monument includes picnic areas, a shelter, playground, and a log cabin that was moved to the site in 1981.

Not missing I found it in a cache today and will move along soon. Think there may be another number for this although it did come up with correct info just not the ability to do anything but write a note.

Doing some trackable house keeping but never saw this note until today. Thanks for trying, but we'll just call it lost. It was good while it lasted.

I did not see the previous note before going to the cache. I picked up the tag, but did not see the turtle. I would be happy to fabricate some tag to put the tracking number on it if you want me to send it along.

Today we found the cache called "Butler-McCook House: Urban Oasis" in Hartford CT. We had hoped to find your trackable item in the cache. We did find the luggage tag that the turtle was attached to. And we did find the Ziploc bag that the turtle and the tag travelled in. But the bag had been ripped open and torn, and the turtle tag was no longer attached to the luggage tag. We left the surviving items in the cache, on the chance that the turtle taker was to return it to the cache.

[black]Dropping this traveler off at a cache in the garden of a historic 230-year-old house in Hartford, Connecticut, the state capital. The Hartford area was the home of the Podunk, Tunxis, and Wangunk tribes, and the name "Connecticut" is derived from a Native American word meaning "Land of the Long River" (the Connecticut River bisects the state from the Massachusetts state line to its mouth at Long Island Sound). Today the state is the home of the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot nations. Bon Voyage and here's to new adventures along the trail!

  • In the Heart of Hartford! Here I am at a cache in Hartford, CT, the state capital, waiting to move along to new adventures! (BTW, the name "Connecticut" comes from a Native American word meaning "Land of the Long River".)
  • The Butler-McCook House The cache in which this TB is waiting to move along is located in a garden behind this historic 230-year-old mansion in Hartford, CT, the state capital. The house is now a museum and features a beautiful formal garden.
