Current Goal

Bella was born at a Love’s truck stop in Arizona, where she met George of the Urban Jungle and became Real.

About This Item

Bella has become bored with the reality of being here, and wants to get out, get a facial, do some shopping, and maybe some antiquing. She is interested in art and literature, and would like to read whatever you are reading. Mainly, she wants to get out and see what’s in the world. With great good fortune, she would like to be reunited with George of the Urban Jungle travel bug, who was last seen touring the forests and jungles of the American Midwest.

Update on George: Spotted in Indiana, USA, in August 2008.

Bella enjoys being a travel bug, but resents being called simply a "bug." So please, call her "Bella the Travel Bug" or just "Bella," not "Bella the Bug."

Bella's Reading List

So far in her journey, Bella has read the following books:

"Art and Physics" Shlain(?)
"A Primate Memoir" Sapolsky
"The Founding Fish" McPhee
"Six Easy Pieces" Feynman
"Anza-Borrego A-Z" Lindsey
"Duden" (Bella's first book in German)
"Logik" Martinus (Bella's first book in Danish)
"Da Vinci Mysteriet" Brown
Collected Works - Shakespeare (in German)
Toward the end of 2007 Bella found herself living with a bookseller in Germany. It was apparently a sort of literary binge. She read many books, all kinds, but exact titles are not known.
"Words in a French Life" Espinasse

Other Significant Events in Bella's Journey

In the course of her travels, Bella's cultural growth and development has surpassed her wildest early dreams. In addition to reading some great books, Bella has:

  • Learned how to tend a garden.
  • Learned how to play classical music on the piano.
  • Learned how to speak German.
  • Learned how to speak Danish.
  • Visited Tom's grandfather's hometown, Copenhagen.
  • Attended a Confirmation.
  • Learned French.
  • Went malling in Edmonton.
  • Made her way to New South Wales, where Tom celebrated his 21st birthday (a very long time ago!)

We left her at this cache because it is on an important trade and travel route since at least the eighteenth century. Hopefully this will give her an added boost on her way East. We're worried about George who hasn't settled down in nearly 6 months.

Yahoo - my first travel bug!

I noticed that she had been in "It's About Time" for almost 6 weeks. While the views from the cache are very nice, I suspected that Bella would be ready to move on.

She does love literature. I have been reading to her from Robert Sapolsky's "A Primate Memoir" which is a fascinating account of the author's life in Africa studying baboons. It is a twisted blend of The Crocidile Hunter, Douglas Adams, Jane Goodal and a pinch of Henry Stanley.

I have also been letting her puruse McPhee's "The Founding Fish" and "Six Easy Pieces" by Richard Feynman.

When I started reading Lindsey's "Anza-Borrego A-Z" to her, she asked to be taken on a road trip to the desert.

So, later this month we'll start her on her trip East by taking her to a cache an ABSP.

Bella was smiling out of her spiny hiding place and seemed ready for new surroundings. Will move her along in our neighborhood.

I found Bella admiring a great veiw of Rancho San Diego. She agreed to come home with me for awhile. All the way home, she read my book Art and Physics. She'll be showing up in another cache soon.
