Cinnamon Century is in love with historical attractions and so she would like to visit as many historical attractions as she can, logging many miles along the way.

About This Item

Shadows of the past

I received this little brown antique car from my mother in Tacoma. She used to send us lots of little gifts that she accumulated from mail-order gift houses.

This geocache is too small to contain Travel Bugs. The previous owner should have marked this bug missing as soon as it was logged in.The whole cache is gone now. Sorry

Definitely not in The Last Blacksmith Standing!

Sorry to say I have revisited the cache and scoured the area, even spoke to the people in the blacksmith's shop, Cinnamon appears to have been abducted by a person or persons unknown. Although the local PD really wanted to put her on the missing persons list, she just fell short of their criteria. They assure me that if she turns up the will return her to her last known location. I will be trying to acquire a suitable replacement ASAP.

Cinnamon was so fun to have with me - even though the stay was longer than planned. She motivated me to get back out there after surgery limited my caching mobility.
She is now in historic Galena, IL. Once the home of President Ulysses S Grant and full of rich historic places to visit. I chose the Last Blacksmith Standing, having been there long before I began Geocaching, I knew it would be a fun place to start her in Galena. If you are able to make it during the hours the Smithing shop is open spend some time seeing just how things were done back in the day! Galena is also known for being what remains of a mountain range that existed prior to the ice age! Drive along Hwy 20 and Stage Coach Trail to see some breathtaking views of the foothills that remain! Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we do - every weekend we can!

We saw that this TB likes visiting historic locations and could think of no better place than Starved Rock State Park! Per wikipedia, "In the pre-Columbian era, the area was home to Native Americans, particularly the Kaskaskia who lived in the Grand Village of the Illinois across the river. Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette were the first Europeans recorded as exploring the region, and by 1683, the French had established Fort St. Louis on a large sandstone butte overlooking the river. According to a native legend, a group of Illinois Confederation (Illini) pursued by the Ottawa and Potawatomi fled to the butte in the late 18th century. The Ottawa and Potawatomi besieged the butte until all of the Illini had starved, and the butte became known as Starved Rock. The butte area was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1960."
