Andreas has a mission to keep 'caching pathways open. Often when out and about the footpaths are very overgrown and I think a chainsaw in my backpack would be a good idea. So hopefully this little chap (found in a Cambridgeshire cache) could check out Public Foothpaths and Bridleways to clear the way for us all!
Andreas has all his protective gear on and his 'high viz' jacket can be seen for miles. He is happiest in woodland settings and is very well informed in Woodland Crafts so can always be found ready to inform all ‘cachers on just how we should all protect our countryside and woodlands and keep them clean too.
With so much work to do out in the countryside, Andreas hasn’t got time to hang around in your backpack, so please move him along within 2 weeks. Photos of Andreas’ adventures would be great too.
Andreas stands 5cm tall and carries a powerful chainsaw in his hands. Dressed in all the correct gear, including hi-viz, his hard hat, visor and ear defenders he is ready for any forestry emergency. Attached to Andreas is a track-a-tag dog tag with the tracking number on, plus a small keyring that gives a brief insight to his mission.
This is the second version of Andreas I have sent out into the world after someone stole the original.
Andreas Stihl, born November 10th, 1896 was an engineer and an important inventor in the area of chainsaws. He founded Andreas Stihl AG & Company in 1926. In the same year, he patented the ‘Cutoff Chainsaw for Electric Power.’ This saw weighed in at a hefty 63 kg and had a one-inch gauge chain with handles at either end. Due to its bulk, it required two people to operate. In 1929, Stihl built the world's first petrol powered chainsaw, named the 'tree-felling machine.' In 1950, Stihl developed the first chainsaw capable of being operated by a single person. In 1959, the company introduced the lightweight Stihl Contra chainsaw. The company he founded still bears his name, and is privately owned by his children, exporting equipment including chainsaws across the globe.
