Dr. Zaius believes that there may be another jungle beyond the forbidden zone. From his starting point in our present-day 'California', Zaius describes the forbidden zone as the 'Eastern Desert', presumably Nevada. He is on a mission to find out what lies in and beyond the forbidden zone. Zaius would appreciate your help travelling on this strange planet, and he will dispense surprisingly accurate prophecies and words of wisdom while he is in your care. He is a reactionary, however, and he will attempt to supress any new ideas or deviations from ape law.
Dr. Zaius is a respected orangutan elder and the chief of state in Ape City; he is considered superior in the simian social order. As Minister of Science and Chief Defender of the Faith, Zaius knows the secrets of the sacred scrolls and hides the true role of humans in ape evolution.
Warning:
Keep your eye on Zaius, he will try to have a veterinarian remove your brain's speech centers if you're not a respectful human subject.
The Big Picture:
Dr. Zaius is working in conjunction with two young chimpanzee scientists, Dr. Zira travel bug and Dr. Cornelius travel bug, who are also exploring the forbidden zone and beyond. They are far more liberal than Zaius, and they have other motives, but all three will enjoy meeting up and discussing their travels. These three apes share a common nemesis, General Ursus travel bug, who is bent on conquering and destroying neighboring cultures. Perhaps all three together can defeat Ursus...
The Twenty-Ninth Scroll, Sixth Verse:
"Beware the beast MAN, for he is the devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport. Or lust. Or greed. He will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, or he will make a desert of his home... and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair -- for he is the harbinger of DEATH."

Found Dr. Zaius in West Lafayette, IN. We are going to check our travels, perhaps he can be moved closer to his desired locale. We are trying to be very respectful - don't want to irritate him!!
