Our city put on a lovely ceremony called Out of the Darkness (suicide awareness walk) and I found it very therapeutic to walk in honor of my dad who committed suicide when I was 8 years old. His death still makes me sad, even though it’s been 36 years but today I felt peace about it. Each bead necklace that was chosen was for a different reason. The colors my partner and I wore included gold for a parent lost to suicide, teal for supporting someone who struggles, purple for loss of relative or friend, silver for loss of military, and blue for supporting suicide prevention.
Another key to happiness is for me to feel I am contributing to a cause I believe in and helping others! I dipped the TB at my cache that we walked by with a group of 400 people all supporting suicide prevention!
