Die einheimische "Europäische Auster" wurde durch Überfischung und Parasiten bis 1940 ausgerottet. Schon davor gab es allerdings Versuche die Pazifische Auster als Neozoe (tierischer "Neubürger") in der Nordsee anzusiedeln. 1965 gelang das erstmals in der Oosterschelde (Süd-Niederlande). Von dort verwilderte sie und verbreitete sich dann in Richtung der Wattgebiete. 1983 wurde sie erstmals an der Texelschen Küste entdeckt. Terschelling erreichte sie 6 Jahre später.
The endemic "European oyster" was eradicated till 1940 due to overfishing and parasite infestation. But there were attempts to establish the pacific oyster as a "neozoa" (animal invader) already before. In 1965 this suceeded in the "Oosterschelde" (in the south of the Netherlands). Starting there the pacific oyster spread by it's own along the intertidal mudflats. 1983 the shell was seen at the coast of Texel for the first time. 6 years later it reached Terschelling.
