This trackable is unusual for its longevity. In the five-year period, 2010-14, the owner released a total of 1721 travel bugs in the United States (95%) and Europe (5%). This travel bug is one of the 2% of the total that circulated for at least 5 years and had been moved at least 25 times. As of 17-Nov-19, this particular travel bug had survived for 5.5 years and had been moved by 37 cachers. How far can it get? Keep it moving!
Please drop it in rural OR Premium Member Only caches. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the travel bug anywhere you wish. No permission is needed to leave the U.S.
Travel bug photos are appreciated and will be re-posted here.
This series of “snow” travel bugs each commemorates a cold US city. I am not sure how one determines the coldest US cities in the winter. Does one rank the record lows, lowest monthly averages or lowest winter averages? Many of the cities would appear on all three lists. Rather than try to assign a ranking, I will simply include some cities or hamlets from each of the criteria. Regardless of ranking, we have to acknowledge that all of the locations identified in this series are really, really cold places in winter.
Island Park, Idaho is now a resort area known for its skiing and snowmobiling in winter and fishing and wildlife viewing in the summer. It is at about 6,293 feet above sea level and a half-hour's drive from Yellowstone National Park. That helps explain its sometimes extremely cold weather, as the temperature dropped to 60 degrees below zero here on Jan. 18, 1943.
