About This Item

Moxie the moose travel bug tag

One of our very first geocache hides was named "Moxie Returns". The purpose of that cache was to honor the return on one of our (then) favorite restaurants here in New Hampshire. The restaurant was called "Bugaboo Creek" and for the longest time we would dine there regularly, i.e. about once a week. But then one day we stopped by for dinner and were shocked to see a note taped to the front door that stated that the restaurant had permanently closed!

Not only were we shocked, but we were told that the employees found out about the closing the same way we did! sad

After about a year had gone by, we "caught wind" (from one of those former employees) that the restaurant would be opening in a few months and just in time for Christmas.

The mascot of that restaurant is a large moose named "Moxie", so we named our cache "Moxie Returns". Moxie DID return as rumored, so we were proud of our new cache at that time.

Sadly, we recently found out that the restaurant had AGAIN closed for business angry and Moxie took off with them. Were Moxie is now is unknown, so we have created this trackable to represent him, and to have him travel worldwide (if necessary) to find his older cousin.

Recently, we decided to archive our "Moxie Returns" geocache, because it no longer held the meaning our value of it's original intent. This was our first EVER cache archive, and we really miss the old moose!

As stated in the mission identified above, "Moxie Moose" starts his journey in a trackables race that started on 9/17/2014. This race will last exactly one year, so his first mission is to move as fast and as far as possible while searching for his larger cousin.

As part of settling into our new home here in Maine we decided to get back into geocaching after a hiatus of about 4 years. We hope to do a lot of exploring of the area this spring/summer and will drop him along the way.

I discovered Moxie celebrating the Leap Year in Brewer, Maine - only 4.4 miles from the nearest open restaurant to his liking. Sorry Fred, but I now have a craving for Grilled Rainbow Trout with Lemon pepper.

Took on a rainy day while caching with my nephew. There were others in there, but this was my favorite. Will bring to Camden Hills.
