Quercus

Hallo, ich bin Quercus. Ich starte heute meine Reise nach Glasgow, ich möchte an der nächsten COP teilnehmen. Mein Freund Slate geht zeitgleich an den Start. Wir sind gespannt, ob und wann wir unser Ziel erreichen.

Hello, I'm Quercus. I'm starting my trip to Glasgow today, I want to take part in the next COP. My friend Slate is starting at the same time. We are excited to see if and when we will achieve our goal.

Nennt mich Quercus. Ich wuchs im Morschenicher Wald auf, einem Teil der Bürgewaldes. Heute sind die gut 200 ha Reste des einst 4.100 ha großen Waldes weltweit als #hambibleibt bekannt. Der Rest wurde durch den Tagebau Hambach zerstört.

200 Jahre hatte ich meine Ruhe, wuchs und atmete CO2 ein und Sauerstoff aus. 2017 wurde die Rodungskante bis an 30 Meter an mich herangeführt. Es gab zwar einen Rodungsstopp, doch der nutzte mir und meinen Nachbarn leider nichts mehr. Die Bagger wurden bis auf 50 Meter an den Wald herangeführt, gegen alle Regeln.

Durch die Klimaerhitzung war es die letzen Jahre viel zu trocken im Wald und die 400 Meter tiefe Grube raubte uns das resliche Wasser. Die Winde aus dem Tagebau sind im Sommer heiß und verbrannten meine Blätter. 2019 habe ich aufgegeben.

Call me Quercus. I grew up in the Morschenicher Wald, part of the Bürgewaldes. Today, the 200 ha of remains of the once 4,100 ha forest are known worldwide as #hambileibt. The rest was destroyed by the Hambach opencast mine.

For 200 years I was at peace, growing and breathing in CO2 and exhaling oxygen. In 2017, the clearing edge was brought up to me up to 30 meters. There was a clearing stop, but unfortunately it was of no use to me and my neighbors. The excavators were brought up to 50 meters away from the forest, against all rules.

Due to the warming of the climate it was much too dry in the forest in recent years and the 400 meter deep pit robbed us of the remaining water. The winds from the open pit mine are hot in summer and burned my leaves. I gave up in 2019.
