Current Goal

Stockholm, Sunday August 10, 1628

During the afternoon, the Vasa ist warped along the quays of the Old Town. She makes sail in a light breeze. After a few hundred metres the Vasa heels over for a squall but rights herself again. After another squall she begins to list heavily and to take in water through the gunports. Off the island of Beckholmen the ship capsizes. About fifty people drown when the vasa sinks "sails set, flags flying and all".

It´s time now to bring me home to Sweden, from cache to cache!

About This Item

The Vasa Ship

Deutsch:

Quelle: Wikipedia

English:

Vasa (or Wasa)[2] is a Swedish warship built between 1626 and 1628. The ship founderedafter sailing about 1,300 m (1,400 yd) into her maiden voyage on 10 August 1628. She fell into obscurity after most of her valuable bronze cannons were salvaged in the 17th century until she was located again in the late 1950s in a busy shipping lane just outside the Stockholm harbor. Salvaged with a largely intact hull in 1961, she was housed in a temporary museum called Wasavarvet ("The Wasa Shipyard") until 1988 and then moved to the Vasa Museum in Stockholm.

How great to have this series of caches near the highlights around Stockholm. We spent the afternoon at Skansen but could have spent the whole day. What a fabulous vision come to life.

Left a Vasa Ship TB that I had hoped to leave in the cache near the Vasa museum but that container was too small. I brought it from the USA bcs it's mission was to come back to Sweden. Mission accomplished! So now it can tour Scandinavia. TFTH

What an amazing experience to finally see first hand and learn the Vasa ship story. Truly a remarkable process it has been.
We found the cache after visiting the museum and had hoped to leave the pictured Vasa ship TB we brought from USA in the cache. Unfortunately it is no longer a small LnL and would not hold the TB. 😕

So happy to find a cache big enough to leave a world Hitchhiker TB from America!!
We visited our granddaughter- in - law at Allis Rec center today where she works and spotted this large cache container on the map before heading for bus back to town. Found pretty quickly between rain squalls and left the TB to continue on its adventure...

👍 Ah beautiful Stockholm, what a majestic old world city. A day to experience big city Sweden after a week in Uppsala with large USA family group here to celebrate our grandson earning his PhD at Uppsala University.
This statue of Sweden’s king Gustav II Adolf in Swedish green marble is enormous and so beautiful.

👍 We've been in Uppsala now for 6 days for our grandson's PhD defense and celebration at the University. We've walked thru the Square a dozen times but didn't have time to stop to look for this cache.
Today we took the time and thankfully it was a quick find. I actually spotted a possibility as we walked up and sure enough. Good thing too because a wedding couple and photographer didn't want us hanging around any longer than necessary since we were in their photo shoot space... TFTC

So delighted to see this cache listing after visiting the wonderful viking church, museum, and boat grave mounds at Gamla Uppsala. Crazy to think about the history that is buried
under those monstrous mounds. TFTC

👍 We loved the Gustavian Museum here in Uppsala Sweden. Thx for the virtual cache to draw us inside. The art cabinet was exquisite and the beard curling tongs amazing. Didn’t expect to see such an extensive Egyptian exhibit and the Anatomical surgery theatre was unique to say the least.

Although not exactly what was requested, my photo was taken from the back of the castle at the once per year “ringing of the bell” and student choir on the evening of the Valborg celebration held on the last day of April each year. We arrived in Uppsala from Seattle WA USA in the afternoon and we’re told to do whatever it took to stay awake to see this event. It was well worth sitting in the cold night air to witness this special event and see the hundreds of students emerge from the castle in their finest attire to also hear the bell and the choir.
