Rome's Coliseum, aka the Flavian Amptheatre. It was built in just 8 years, from AD 72 - AD 80, and could hold over 50,000 spectators. It was primarily used for blood sports like gladiator competitions, but all manner of large public entertainments took place there. It was actively used for this purpose for more than 400 years.
