About This Item

Giant Leap for Man Kind

This is in tribute of John F. Kennedy and his dream he did not get to stay around for.  Also a friend of mine Dr. Paul Ronney. Who should have been on Shuttle mission STS-107 but was bumped to make room for Ilan Ramon (Colonel, Israel Air Force).  Yes, this is the Shuttle that blew up on re-entry.

STS-107 was a space shuttle mission by NASA using the Space Shuttle Columbia, launched January 16, 2003. The seven-member crew was killed on February 1, 2003 when the shuttle disintegrated during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. The cause of the accident was a piece of foam that broke off during launch and damaged the thermal protection system components (reinforced carbon-carbon panels and thermal protection tiles) on the leading edge of the left wing of the Shuttle orbiter, causing an extensive heat build-up. During re-entry the damaged wing slowly overheated and came apart, eventually leading to loss of control and total disintegration of the vehicle.

Wow, We really disappointed this TB never made it home. 😟
It's been on a very long trip and only one item left to complete.

I do wish people would read the TB page before they move TB's on.

What a shame!

We forgot to log that we placed this one in Simonson Brook after we picked it up down in Georgia. Glad we found the little guy before the Georgia cache was unfortunately destroyed.
