About This Item

Apollo 13 Original Crew

This Travel Bug is in honor of my dad, Bernard Suchocki.

My dad was a NASA Engineer for 14 years. He trained the Astronauts from Apollo VII through Apollo XVII in Guidance and Navigation, which included the operation of the Apollo Guidance Computer, alignment of the Inertial Measurement Unit, Ascent, Translunar Injection, Lunar Insertion, Rendezvous Targeting, Return to Earth Targeting, and Re-Entry.

He was a participant Presidential Medal of Freedom Award as a member of the Apollo XIII Mission Operations Team that rescued the Apollo 13 crew after an oxygen tank exploded.

During the shuttle program he was a software manager responsible for coordinating the system software requirement for the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory.
