Genii is competing in the 2004 Cannonball Run travel bug race. She started the race in California and is now moving cross-country to Winner's Circle cache (GCJ271) near Buffalo, New York.
Ok, so she's not THE magical car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She doesn't fly or float on a raft, in fact her wheels barely turn and she looks like a modernized version of the movie car: an SUV.
The main race rule is: TBs can only move one state at a time, states must share a common geographic border. Any TB that skips a state intentionally or not MUST move back to the last consecutive state that it was in (not necessarily the same cache) and begin again from there. This rule holds true for TBs leaving the USA into foreign countries.
Please see the Cannonball Run web page for the full race details and the rest of the rules.
Background:
The car built for the movie was about 2 tons and was 17 feet long: the wood was red and white cedar, the fittings brass, and the dashboard plate was from a British World War I fighter plane. The license plate reads "GEN11" because that's the closest the licensing system could get to Genii. The movie was, of course, based on Ian Fleming's book. Genii the TB racer is just over 3" long and is a block of pine.
