Goal: Travel from cache to cache in search of BRAAAAINS. Visit Geocaching events. Spread the plague. Please take photos!
Meet Russ, a zombie who has become patient number 157 in our study of the propagation of the zombie plague via geocaching. Russ was a freelance motorcycle mechanic in New York City. He worked on all kinds of bikes, but rarely road one other than for work. He liked to create geocaching challenges for himself involving public transportation, and reveled in how far he could go to get a cache using that method of transport. Based on an online diary we were able to recover portions of, we know that he was working on a puzzle cache involving then elevators of the Empire State Building. He collected old typewriters.
We believe that Russ contracted the zombie plague from patient 118 - Dwight. Dwight returned to New York from the Berkshire Mega Event, and held a series of flash mobs to help folks obtain the socializer Groundspeak souvenir, as part of the seven souvenirs of August campaign. Although Russ usually cached solo, and had little use for the Groundspeak souvenirs we know that he attended one of these events to consult with another puzzle cacher. Since that is where is caching record ends, we presume the plague got to him pretty quickly after the event.
This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching. Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
