In the year 1653 a travelling fishsalesman, lost a ray in a little settlement near Weert, called Laar. Non of the inhabitants of Weert had ever seen such a hellish animal: with its scary eyes and stinging-tail, they thought: “it must be the devil !”
In more than one way the townspeople of Weert were alerted to this find:
By Hendrik de Vos, who rode an oxen, blowing his horn.
Peter de Bont, the towns announcer, who rushed around with his “ Biecaer”* ,spreading the dreadful news and all being accompanied by church bells chiming their alarm.
The Civic Guard was alerted and they even brought along their little canon.
A gallows was erected. And of course the preacher came to bless the desecrated place.
Some women encouraged their men to gear up for battle, others tried to keep them from going. But no cowards were accepted. The bravest of them all was a young man, by the name of Jan, an innkeepers son who's father owned an Inn called “ ‘t Bruyne Paerd”.
He became the first and probably only Ray-Stabber, when he stabbed his rake into the beast. As it was told, for this brave action, he gained the hand of the Sherrif's daughter.
In the meantime the fishmonger discovered the loss of the fish and he returned to the “scene of the crime”, were he ridiculed the gathered townspeople of Weert. (O, you silly people, let it be known, this here be my fish) But the sheriff still wasn’t convinced that it wasn’t the devil, but just a fish. So it was hung and burned.
From that day on the people of Weert are teasingly known as “Ray Stabbers”.
Biecaer (or Biekaer) is a beehive. This was turned upside-down an tightly covered with a skin. In this way a drum was made.

We picked this TB up from 'David's Cache' (GC16ENH). It wasn't listed on the cache's page and we don't know how it got there, but at least it is safe now :)
We will find a suitable cache for it to visit as soon as we can.
