Current Goal

The Generals are the nickname for our school teams. This is the fourth year that my classes have sent out one of our Generals so students can track the caches this bug travels to, and using maps to try to identify the biomes the General visits. Even if you can't post a long log note, PLEASE keep this bug moving, so we can gather lots of good data.
Thanks. Mrs. A's Biology classes.

About This Item

The General-ready to travel!

A "biome" is an area that has distinctive plants, animals, and climate--such as a bog, a swamp, a sage-brush desert, a mountain meadow, a tall grass prairie, etc. The Biology classes want to study biomes of the world AND they want to compete with the other classes that sent out a similar TBs.
You don't have to know what kind of biome you leave the bug in-- the kids will research that using information on the internet about the cache area. If you want to help them out, you might include a photograph from the general area, or a description of the plants and usual weather (Does the area have seasons? Is there permafrost? Are there mostly small mammals, or do big grazing animals like elk and moose live there?)
All we ask is that you leave the TB where it will get to travel again soon. If you find it in a remote location and it has been there long, please take the general along to another cache.
The kids in the class will be watching G2006 anxiously to see where he will go next. Thanks in advance for helping us with our extended field trip!

Just one of my stops from a nice forest preserve on Friday. Nothing beats a little caching before school. More visits to be logged!

What a great project idea for the students to get involved in! I may have to steal your idea for my technology classes at our school.

I'm a little bummed that I didn't have this a few days sooner, as we just returned from Wisconsin. They have some great marshlands and morraines out in the Brownsville and Waupun area, if you are interested in studying up on these. It's full of geographic anomalies.

I'll get this bug moving along in the next couple days. Best of luck with the rest of the school year!
