#2479. My first 5/5 after an incredible hike from 7 Oaks. There were a couple of times--with big crevices/drops--that I just told skunkonthefog and GeoMatt11 (he'll always be Rattlesnake Dave to us), "I'm not going that way." But thankfully we found a way around or over every barrier, boulder, and crevice. Coming up from 7 Oaks definitely makes this a challenge.

Great, great adventure. Blue ribbons all the way down. (2/7)

When we finished our celebrations, Rattlesnake Dave departed and skunkonthefog and I made our way to the earthcache--a surprisingly easy hike by comparison.

I've been in Oklahoma less than 36 hours, but I love the hikes, the bison, and the meals (Luigi's gyro, Firo's build-my-own alfredo pizza, and the gas station's cheese sticks and empanada).

#2344. skunkonthefog and I hiked and cached the southern park yesterday. When we saw that there were 2 5-terrains up here that still needed an FTF, we devised a plan. We returned today, but parked in the northern Bauer unit. Since we have no tubes, kayaks, rafts, or natural flotation ability, we hiked all the way. Long hike and hot. We saw the Dred Pirate Roberts (whom we unnecessarily feared had beat us to the FTF) and a tiny fawn on the hike in. We found the 3 great trees at the cache to the south, but after nearly an hour of thorough hunting over a large area, we gave up. We hiked from "You lost?" along the creek's edge. Once near GZ, we made this find almost immediately. Upon departure, we climbed up the Cliffs of Insanity and went due west through the woods a quarter mile until we hit the trail again. Proud to get an FTF on a 4/5. Blue ribbon adventure. Thanks for placing this. McWhaaaaaaaa. MMOAFC. (9/9)

#2098. How many blue ribbons can I give a single cache? This is easily one of my top 5 geocaching experiences. First, I had the trail and rock all to myself on a cool, sunny day. Beautiful views, fun hike, and a great climb. I spent over 20 minutes hunting for the cache. I looked in every possible nook and crevice. Finally I climbed up onto the top of one of the big boulders to look down in a large, deep crevice. I saw the cache lying far down in the crevice. Impossible to reach from up top. Since it is plastic, my magnetic extension rod was no help. I gathered my courage and lowered myself into the big crack, worried mostly about awakening a creature. I had to get all the way down in the crack and bend down and grab the cache. After pulling myself back up, I signed the log and began to think about where I would put it, since where I found it was obviously not the proper spot. As I looked around the top area for a place to re-hide the cache, I noted some motion just below on the trail. I stood still and watched...a dog? a coyote? As the yellow-tan animal passed the rock formation it came into full view: a mountain lion. Right down below me. About my size. I stood still, stayed quiet, and began to work on a plan (which never formed). I watched the lion walk calmly northward along the trail and finally out of sight. Somehow it did not hear, see, or smell me. I dropped the cache in a nearby "notch", climbed down the opposite side of the rock formation, and sprinted as fast and as far as I could.
