About This Item

Chasing Star

I carved Chasing Star from a piece of scrap wood after a Hopi Kachina of the same name. The Na-ngasohu or Chasing Star Kachina is also called Comet Katsina and Planet Katsina. Hopis differ in regard to what this Kachina represents. Some say he represents a planet; to others he represents a meteor streaking across the sky. Chasing Star usually appears at the Bean Dance or at a Mixed Dance. His function is no longer known. Learn more about the Hopi people and their culture, visit:

Took this bug on a trip across the Grand River in Cambride Ontario to a sacred burned tree to find a milestone cache for a friend of mine. Will take it on to Nova Scotia with me to try to find a sacred place for it.
