Current Goal

According to an ancient Greek nuisance named Aesop, this tortoise challenged a hare to a race. Naturally the hare got the jump on the tortoise but got so far ahead he stopped for a nap, at which point the tortoise caught up, plodded by and finished first. This, according to Aesop, proves that: “Slow and steady wins the race” and not “The fix was in.” (One suspects Aesop didn’t play the ponies much.)
We wanted to see if Aesop got it right so we are staging a re-match. The tortoise (a Florida resident named Gofer) will race Marcher the Hare from Tequesta, Florida, to a cache near Anchorage, Alaska. The first to be picked up by an impartial judge (he’s a vegetarian) will be declared winner. The loser will be declared loser (for the sake of symmetry) while Aesop will be declared an unregistered alien and ordered to change his name to something spellable.

I hope he wins. I'll try to move him closer to the finish line.

The Tortoise is a good bit further north now, but he still has a long way to go. He was left in a really nice place for a tortoise to stay, but he'll need to move on pretty quick to catch the hare.

  • Near the Hidden Princeton 1 Cache Ok, it's a great place for a tortoise, though chilly compared to Florida. Highs were in the 70s, lows in the low 50s (in August!), so the tortoise might be tempted to hibernate. Someone needs to move him along quickly before he succumbs to the hare's weakness (napping on the job).
Grab It (Not from a Cache) 8/8/2004 psychohotline grabbed it   Visit Log

An internal grab so this guy can be dropped by team psychohotline, reunited for the weekend.

This little bugger is cuter than I realized when I first picked him up. I'd never heard a tortoise "chirp" before.

Found this guy hanging out near water like a good turtle would. I'll give him a ride shortly to a nice place for a turtle to spend its summer, and somewhat closer to its destination. Go tortoise!

  • Going for a slide? Gofer Tortise wanted to play at the park. His favorite part was this slide.
  • Climbing the chains Tortise had fun on the chains.
  • Swing Away We played at this particular swing for a while, the others were still wet from the rain we've been having.
  • Swing Away We played at this particular swing for a while, the others were still wet from the rain we've been having.
  • Ready for another? There were a few slides in this park, this particular one was a bit steep so i had to convince him he would not get hurt.. He was still a bit afraid.
  • Climbing the chains Tortise wanted to go down yet another slide, He climbed up the chain ropes and slid down into a puddle of muck.
  • Time for a break In the middle of our park adventure he was out of breath so he sat on a bench.
  • Just Chillen Tortise was still a bit tired so he hitched a ride on my shoulder, What a lazy bum!
  • In the Trees Now I did not think Tortise would actually be able to climb this tree, But the picture is proof... He did just fine
  • King of the hill The Gofer Tortise was so proud of himself when he reached the top that he began to shout out " Im the King of the hill!"
  • YOU STOLE MY BIKE! I was very upset with the Tortise as he rode away on my brand new mountain bike!
  • Headdin home Gofer jumped in his truck and raced back home, Guess he had a hott date....
