Brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald opened their first burger bar, McDonald’s Bar-B-Q, in San Bernardino, CA, on May 15, 1940. But it was Ray Kroc’s vision that turned the brothers’ short-ended ambitions into the franchise we know today. On April 15, 1955, Kroc opened the first franchise McDonald’s restaurant in Des Plaines, IL, revolutionizing the fast food industry.
