Claire Bear wishes to visit as many National and State Parks as possible. She would love to see pictures of herself in front of the park's sign.

About This Item

This travel bug was released in honor of our oldest daughter on her first day of second grade. She will be tracking Claire Bear's travels on a large US wall map and would love to see pictures of the parks to learn new things about far away places.

Claire Bear traveled cross-country with me from Fayetteville, NC to Joint Base Lewis McChord and DuPont, WA. My sister (Geocache name "Ronan hikes") and I placed Claire Bear in "Big Tommy's Little Box" on 26 April 2014.
During our ride we stopped at the following parks:
River Raisin National Battlefield, Michigan
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Indiana
Pipestone National Monument, Minnesota
Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, South Dakota
Badlands National Park, South Dakota
Mount Rushmore, South Dakota
Crazy Horse Monument, South Dakota
Devils Tower National Monument, Wyoming
Big Hole National Battlefield, Montana
I have photos of Claire with the signs at each location but I don't see an option for uploading them. I will try to figure it out so you can see the photos.

Took her on one last hike in the "Forever Wild" Adirondak park, to the top of Mount Snow. No high peaks on this trip, sorry, but we're still adjusting to the pack...

  • IMG_0667 This is a great view of Mount Colden from the top of Mount Jo. Colden is a great hike, but be prepared for ladders, and to walk across one of the slides when you're almost at the top!

We took her to the farm of the famous Civil war abolitionist John Brown - if that's not familiar to you, Google it!

OK, I don't have stills of this, you'll just have to trust us... Seeing as we were in the 2x Olympic town of Lake Placid, we thought it appropriate to show her some Olympic sites, especially as the '08 Olympics were still going on. So she got a ride in a retired bobsled and we also took her to the top of the 120 Meter ski jump tower. If I can pull some stills from the video footage I'll put it up here when I can!

We stuck to the hiking theme and took her to Mount Jo Next... Ronan took care of her on this hike!

From Tupper Lake we headed towards Lake Placid, and showed Claire Bear the sights from Owls Head Mountain. You can't really see her here - sorry - none of the other pictures came out. But she is there!
