About This Item

Fred The Space Crab

Fred’s story is not often told because, frankly, no one believes it to be true. But ladies and gents (and maybe some of you muggles out there) must know that although far fetched, Fred’s story is true and if you ask he will tell you exactly what I am about to say.

His story began on the planet Cruscion where all crustaceans lived in perfect harmony. Well all except a rebel group known as “The Brachyura,” or “The True Crabs.” The Brachyura were a supremist group that believed that all other crabs not belonging to the Brachyura taxa were by far, less worthy of existence. Thus a civil war invoked, a war so catastrophic that most crabs were forced from their homes when the Cruscion government relocated civilians for their own protection. Among these civilians was Fred.
The relocation process involved using a sort of space shuttle to move the civilians from one ocean to another, but during Fred’s trip something happened that changed his world forever. From below came the radio transmission that was cut fatally short: “The Brachyura have launched a weapon- ETA in five minutes- aimed at-“ was the last thing they heard until a large cloud of fire destroyed half of Cruscion, taking with it all hope of democracy and coexistence.
But hope was not entirely lost. After months of traveling through space, Fred’s ship came upon a planet called Earth where he landed just north of Monterey, California. With little hope left for thier planet, Fred’s people were ready to give up, but deep down Fred began to realize his mission. A marine biology student found Fred’s ship and mistaking his people for plastic toys, collected them and sold them to Monterey Bay Aquarium where they were duplicated and made into fun key chains. This is where I found Fred, dangling from a hook and equipped with a price tag. Thinking that he was cute, I bought him, but it wasn’t until later did I discover his true self. It was then that he told me his story and asked that I help him find an army capable of returning peace and tolerance back to Cruscion. And so I gave him an IDC and told him that the more caches he passed through the more hearts he could bring to his cause. So I ask all who find Fred to send him on his way and maybe let him know you’ll fight for Crab equality not only on Cruscion, but everywhere in the universe. So it is up to you to decide to help Fred along, or to laugh at him; but know that both Fred’s story, and mission will always ring true to those that really care.

Thought that this was an appropriate cache. Took it from Big Rock in Southern Cal to Big Rock in Northern Cal.

THere was a rattle snake garding the cache. Watch out. Had to use sticks to move the snake.

This is an excellent cache for Fred to work on his mission. Lots of water for him to hang out over and an Interstate nearby if he needs to get away in a hurry.
