This travel bug was created in memory of Steve Knapp, a structural steel inspector, who was found stabbed to death in Ventura County, CA on the 24th of May 06. Steve worked in the non-destructive testing field for 33 years in both Oregon and Washington. He had great knowledge about non-destructive testing and was well respected in his field. He worked on schools, hospitals, bridges, including the Trojan Plant in St Helens, OR to make sure that they were safe for others.

Steve was a man of deep intellect and had great emotional, aesthetic sensitivity. He was a highly skilled, conscientious man with a big heart for other people. He loved to read anything from biography, history, fiction and science. He could talk for hours about almost any subject. Steve served as a Medic, in the Army, in Germany during the Vietnam War. As a young man, he was a bass player in a band and called himself “Greasy Steve.” He enjoyed listening to Jazz and the “Grateful Dead.” Steve loved to ride BMW motorcycles and owned a 1971 BMW and his screen name was “BeemerSteve”. When he retired he wanted to ride around and travel to different places. He also really enjoyed watching basketball (both college & NBA). He was an extremely shy and private man, who would express his convictions if asked. He loved and cared deeply about his family. We won’t see his like again!
