Update: SGTABN82 has the bug at Fort Bragg, NC. Thanks to everyone who helped get the bug to him. Update

I would like for this Travel Bug to visit a military monument or museum in each of the 50 states. When it has done that, I would like for it to return to me.

If this bug can be taken on a sky dive, or jump with a member of the 82nd Airborne, Rangers, or Special Forces, that would be awesome.

About This Item

I am naming this bug after the last division that I served in while on active duty in the army. Here is a little history that might explain why I want it to travel to the 50 states:

The 82nd Infantry Division was formed August 25, 1917, at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Since members of the Division came from all 48 states, the unit was given the nickname "All-Americans," hence its famed "AA" shoulder patch.

In the spring of 1918, the Division deployed to France. In nearly five months of combat the 82nd fought in three major campaigns and helped to break the fighting spirit of the German Imperial Army.

The 82nd was demobilized after World War I. For more than 20 years the "All-American Division" would live only in the memories of men who served in its ranks during the Great War.

With the outbreak of World War II, the 82nd was reactivated on March 25, 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana under the command of Major General Omar N. Bradley.

On August 15, 1942, the 82nd Infantry Division became the first airborne division in the U.S. Army. On that date, the All-American Division was redesignated the 82nd Airborne Division.

Grammy just let the TB have a little rest at the Bug Embassy before beginning a longer journey. However, her trip to Florida would not help the TB with its misson so I am going to help it along myself. I am not military minded, so this was odd for me! After being denied entrance to Fort Lewis because my car insurance proof wasn't current, I had to come back a week later. I thought this would be an in , take a picture, and out, but I ended up spending about 2 hours in the museum. The historical exhibits were interesting, but I spent the most time looking at each picture of the heroes of the Stryker unit that had given their lives in Iraq. Most were young men with their whole lives in front of them, leaving behind their families, girlfriends, wives, and children. I shed a few tears for people I did not know. It seems that war never proves who's right, it only proves who's left. Yet, I admire and appreciate the brave men who answer the call to defend our freedom and the freedom of others. After thousands of years, surely we could have found a better way!! Thanks for the opportunity to visit a place that I would have never seen.
