Das Kabel erobert die Welt

Im Jahre 1846 erfand Werner von Siemens das erste isolierte Kabel. Heute können wir uns die Welt wie wir sie kennen ohne Kabel nicht mehr vorstellen.

Beim Bau eines normalen Einfamilienhauses werden 1,5 Kilometer Kabel und mehr verlegt und wenn wir Auto fahren nehmen wir mehr als 2 Kilometer Kabel mit ohne darüber nachzudenken.

Das dickste Seekabel hat einen Durchmesser von 27cm und führt zu einer Offshore-Windanlage in Dänemark.

Das längste Kabel hat eine stattliche Länge von 39.000 Kilometern und trägt den Namen SEA-ME-WE-3. Die Bezeichnung steht für SouthEastAsiaMiddleEastWesternEurope. Es wird hauptsächlich für Telekommunikation genutzt.

Auch Geocaching wäre ohne Kabel nicht dasselbe, denn was wäre schon ein Computer oder eine Serverfarm ohne Kabel?

So wie Werner von Siemens 1846 das erste Kabel auf die Reise schickte, schicke ich nun "Cable Guy" als Symbol für den Fortschritt auf Wanderschaft. Ich freue mich auf viele tolle Fotos die die Stationen seines Weges dokumentieren.

The cable conquers the world

In 1846 Werner von Siemens invented the first isolated cable. Without cable the world is no longer imaginable today.

When building a standard single-family home there are laid 1,5 kilometers of cable and more, and while travelling by car we take more than 2 kilometers of cable along without even thinking of it.

The thickest submarine cable has a section of 27 centimeters and is laid on the sea bed off the coast of Denmark. It leads to an offshore windfarm.

The longest cable has the stately length of 39.000 kilometers and is named SEA-ME-WE-3 which is short for SouthEastAsiaMiddleEastWesternEurope. It is mainly used for telecommunications.

Even geocaching wouldn´t be the same without cable, because what would a server farm or a computer be without it?

Like Werner von Siemens sent the first cable on the trip in 1846 I now send „Cable Guy“ travelling the world to symbolize progress. I´m looking forward to watching a lot of pictures taken by you to document its way.
