Hi! We are Amira (aged 10) and Jacob (aged 7) from New Zealand! We would like this Travel Bug to go to lots of different countries all around the world!
The shells attached to the Travel Bug are Pāua.
"The Pāua is iconic in New Zealand: its black muscular foot is considered a delicacy, and the shell is frequently used in jewelry. To Māori, Pāua are recognised taonga, or treasure, esteemed both as kaimoana (seafood) and as a valued resource for traditional and contemporary arts and crafts. Pāua are frequently used to represent the eyes in Māori carvings and traditionally are associated with the stars or whetū, the symbolic eyes of ancestors that gaze down from the night sky. Highly polished New Zealand Pāua shells are extremely popular as souvenirs with their striking blue, green, and purple iridescence." (Wikipedia)
You’re welcome to admire the shells but please don’t take them off the chain. We provided several on the chain in case any became broken. Thanks!
