To travel the world, in honor of a great man - my dad - David Wood.
We lost my dad, David Wood, to esophageal cancer in December of 2014, after a 3-year battle. He taught me so much, over the course of my lifetime. However, it wasn't until these last three years that I learned valuable lessons on:
- Strength - Despite cancer and chemo, my father stayed strong until the end - not giving in. Working even through his chemo treatments - always smiling - never complaining.
- Thankfulness - Where many people would be bitter about a terminal illness, my father was thankful he had time to make sure we all knew how much he loved us and that nothing would go left unsaid. Each day was a gift.
- Selflessness - The esophageal cancer was due to exposure to Agent Orange, from when my father voluntarily served in the Vietnam War. Despite the disease, he never regretted the time he so proudly served his country. And, when he was asked to be a part of a trial drug that risked shortening his time here on Earth, he gladly took part, knowing that if his death put us even one more step closer to a cure for cancer, his life would be worth it.
If you've found this travel bug or are simply reading this page, may you find strength in times of trouble. May you remember to be thankful, even when it seems there's nothing to be thankful for. And, may you live your life selflessly, so your life leaves a positive impact on the world.
