Zu unseren Urlaubsunternehmungen in Nordfriesland gehörte auch ein Besuch der Ausstellung "Sturmflutenwelt Blanker Hans" in Büsum. Dort haben wir den Chip erstanden und schicken ihn nun auf die Reise rund um den Globus...

"Blanker Hans" ist eine Bezeichnung für die tobende Nordsee bei Sturmfluten; das Wort "blank" heißt auf niederländisch "weiß" und bezeichnet hier wohl die schäumende Gischt.

Für uns Binnenlandbewohner war es beeindruckend, zu erfahren, mit welcher Energie an der Küste Jahrhunderte lang gegen das Meer gekämpft wurde (werden musste) und immer noch gekämpft wird. Trotzdem versucht man heute, im Einklang mit der Natur und deren Kräften zu leben und sich mit den Gegebenheiten zu arrangieren.

In unserer Heimat Sachsen verursachten innerhalb weniger Jahre zwei Fluten der Flüsse große Schäden und nun muss auch hier umgedacht und die Unberechenbarkeit der Natur bedacht werden.

In our holidays in the north of Germany at the Northsea coast we visited the exhibition "Blanker Hans" in Büsum. There you can learn interesting facts about the sea and its power in case of a storm tide. The coin we bought there and now we send it all around the world.

The name "Blanker Hans" is a synonym for the wild sea; "blank" means "white" in Dutch and so it describes the wave´s white spindrift.

Hundreds of years the people had to fight against the sea - and they still have to - and we were impressed by their energy. Now they try to save themselves and also live in peace with the ocean and accept the power of the nature.

Where we come from, Saxony in the middle of Germany, there were two floods in the last years, too. They were caused by small rivers and noone had foreseen the floods. So there was no prevention or protection... So now also the people living far away from the ocean have to think about the power of the nature and have to learn to
