Ok, third year of running the Portland Marathon. Time to compare.

So 2013 I trained like heck. Had really bad cramps at 13 had to walk some but was able to run again.
2014 I trained less. Cramped at 17, but was able to run again through the finish.
2015 Injured myself during training and lost 3 months of running. Cramped at 11, was able to run through it. Cramped again at 19 ran till 20. Then pretty much walked my normal pace and got passed by everyone.
Goals : no running for the rest of this month. Then going to join a running club and workout with others to help motivate myself.
