Baby Carosella had been such a joy to have with us. She has been sitting at the desk and we had some nice talks about memories of riding carousels from childhood days.
We took her to the Carousel mall to see the carousel there. Then we took her to visit the Erie Canal. Our plans for her are to take her to Binghamton, NY where she can visit some other carousels. A paper with information about this carousel will travel along with her.
The one we took Carosella to visit was PTC Carousel No. 18 in the Carousel Center Shopping Mall in Syracuse, NY.
Carousel No. 18 was the 18th carousel made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. There are 42 horses that were carved by Leo Zoller in Germantown, PA where the carousel was made in 1909.
This Carousel has been in amusement parks in Louisville, Kentucky; Worcester, Massachusetts; Erie, Pennsylvania and Canandaigua, New York.
Of the 48 houses thirty-eight of them are "jumper" meaning that they move up and down. The carousel is 54-feet in diameter and weighs about 30 tons.
It was brought to the Carousel Center in Syracuse by the Pyramid Companies of Syracuse, New York It had traveled eighty-one years before coming there in 15 October 1990. It has been authentically restored to the original colors and details.
Today many happy smiling faces can be seen riding this carousel.
Hopefully Carosella will be able to visit some more carousels in Binghamton, NY. She was so happy when she saw the last one and is looking forward to seeing more.
Once we figure out how to work the camera we will send some pictures.
